Research and Teaching Interests

Ms. Sampson instructs international teaching assistants (ITAs) in language training and pedagogy preparing them to teach in their respective departments. She also works with ESOL instructors and those of some of the less commonly taught languages at SU - Hebrew, Korean, Pashto, Persian, Portuguese, Swahili, and Turkish. She has participated in the Graduate School’s Teaching Assistant Orientation Program for over 20 years, leading language workshops and assessing the oral communication skills of the incoming ITAs.

Other interests

Ms. Sampson, language coordinator and instructor for the ESOL Program, coordinates courses and testing for graduate and undergraduate international students and supervises the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants in LLL. For the past three years, Ms. Sampson has helped direct a summer orientation program for international Fulbright scholars who will be teaching their respective languages at colleges and universities throughout the United States. She has also been active in the professional organizations TESOL and its New York State affiliate NYSTESOL, for which she has served on the Executive Board and presented at annual conferences on issues relating to ITAs.
